May 31st, 2008 by enzo

Costa Rica’s second international airport, the Daniel Oduber International Airport, has experienced a rapid growth in tourists choosing to arrive or depart from Guanacaste. The growing tourism offer in the region as well as the growing residency rate in the area, the Liberia airport has hardly had time to catch up.

This small international airport located in the heart of Guanacaste, currently entertains travelers with a fast food joint and a restaurant. The Costa Rican Board of Tourism (ICT) expects to service at least 500 thousand tourists in the Liberia airport for 2008.

By July of this year, the Liberia airport will have added a Duty Free store and kiosk that will offer travelers the usual articles you can find at any Duty Free shop. Offer will include designer wristwatches, household name perfumes, Costa Rica souvenirs, chocolates, tobacco, digital cameras, liquor and much more.

Construction of the new duty free store and kiosk are well under way and will be inaugurated July 25th by Costa Rica’s president, Oscar Arias. The event will be part of the national holidays that celebrate the annexation of the province of Guanacaste.

Tourists are opting the use of this airport more and more every day due to the vast number of beaches and hotels in the region. Guanacaste boasts of the most beautiful and popular beaches in the country and attract thousands of visitors worldwide. What makes this region popular aside from its spectacular beaches, is the fact that Guanacaste accommodations are easy to find by all types of travelers. Low budget and cheap hotels are available almost anywhere as well as the 5 star, all inclusive beach resorts for the more demanding.

Malpais

May 30th, 2008 by Carolyn Ramer

Malpais is a very rustic and laid back beach located in Costa Rica’s northern pacific coast, specifically on the Nicoya Peninsula’s southern tip.

Malpais is popular for its perfect surfing conditions as well as the most spectacular sunsets ever seen. Due to the region’s subtropical vegetation, Malpais attracts hundreds of tourists as well as biology and ecology students from around the world.

The area offers a wide variety of lodging which range from the old school cabinas to the low budget, yet clean accommodations. Malpais, as well as its surrounding beaches, are inhabited by Europeans, North Americans, Rastafarians as well as locals thus making it a very interesting and culturally rich experience.

Several national parks are in the area and provide an exciting and educational experience for those interested in the local history as well as flora and fauna. The Cabo Blanco National Park is at just 3 kilometers south from Malpais.

The beach is perfect for carrying out several activities such as surfing, snorkeling, diving, sport fishing as well as mountain biking or even renting an ATV.

Malpais still keeps the traditional Costa Rican laid back atmosphere which makes any tourist feel welcome and at home.

If you want to discover Malpais, you shouldn’t have a problem finding a Costa Rican Hotel in the area.
