Tropical Storm hits the Atlantic Coast
August 10th, 2008 by Carolyn Ramer
The National Institute of Meteorology (IMN) and the National Emergency Commission (CNE) of Costa Rica announced that the Atlantic Coast would receive more rain today due to the climatic front.
A green alert was emitted by the CNE due to the unstable conditions yesterday’s rainfall provoked as well as the rain expected today.
As for yesterday evening, the National Emergency Commission received reports of several flooded houses in the town of Siguirres as well as in the communities of La Lucha, Islona, Nueva Esperanza and Hamburgo.
As for the town of Carmen, also in Siquirres, the Red Cross had reported that at least 80 houses were damaged due to floods in the area.
For those who have plans for whitewater rafting during these days, the Reventazon and Pacuare Rivers were also reported as overgrown due to the rainfall. Although an overgrown river could signify a more exciting and demanding trip down the river, extra precaution would be a good idea.
Please pay close attention to the guides’ instructions as they know the river very well and are used to these situations.
