November 14th, 2008 by Carolyn Ramer

The Spanish RIU Hotel & Resorts has added a very prestigious award to its already existing achievements.  The award granted was the “Best Hotel Chain of the Year” given out by the British Travel Awards 2008.

RIU is currently the largest hotel chain in the world with over 100 hotels in 16 countries.  RIU Hotel & Resort also has the largest presence in the Caribbean and is the 3rd largest in Spain.  RIU receives an annual 2.7 million guests from which 13% are from Britain.

RIU is currently building its first hotel in the Central American region and has chosen the popular Pacific Coast of Guanacaste in Costa Rica.  The RIU Guanacaste Costa Rica is scheduled to open late 2009 and will add 701 guest rooms to its inventory.

With the recent flight increase between Spain and Central America as well as Costa Rica’s popularity among the European tourists, the RIU Guanacaste promises to be an instant success.  Not only will the RIU Guanacaste be located at one of the region’s most spectacular beachfront locations, it will also allow guests to enjoy easy access to nearby nature-adventure activities.

The region of Guanacaste, aside from its spectacular beaches, also boasts of several protected parks such as the Santa Rosa National Park and the Rincon de la Vieja National Park that happens to be the most visited park in the area.

The Rincon de la Vieja National Park offers its visitors exciting volcanic related activities such as boiling mud-pots, hot springs and fumaroles.  The park maintains excellent trails ideal for easy hiking while enjoying the protected rivers and waterfalls.

The RIU Guanacaste Costa Rica will open with its characteristic all-inclusive program and will also include four dining venues, six free-flowing bars and five conference rooms for special activities.

Flight Frequency Increase to Central America

November 14th, 2008 by Carolyn Ramer

As the United States and Canada start experiencing the characteristic winter temperature-drop and people start dreaming of the warm tropical sun while enjoying the cool ocean breeze, Delta Airlines has increased its flight frequency to Central America where dreams can come true.

Starting in mid-December, the airline has announced that it will be adding a total of nine new flights to popular winter getaway destinations in the Caribbean and Central America.  Delta also announced that it will be increasing flight frequency to six of its current popular destinations.

Delta Airlines will be adding destinations such as Buenos Aires, Argentina; Bogota, Colombia and Bonaire in the Dutch Caribbean departing New York by December 18th.  On December 27th, the airline will be adding a connecting flight from Nashville, Tennessee to Cancun, Mexico.

According to Christophe Didier, Delta’s Sales VP and government affairs for Latin America and the Caribbean, these two regions are the fastest growing for this season.  By adding these new flight destinations as well as by increasing its frequency, Delta’s passengers will have a wide variety and plenty of choices for these vacations.

Delta Airlines already offers a steady flight frequency to Guanacaste and San Jose in Costa Rica as well as to other major Central American and Caribbean major cities.
