Route to Sardinal in Guanacaste will Reopen Tomorrow
August 5th, 2008 by Carolyn Ramer
The bridge that crosses over the Guacimal River was seriously damaged Saturday when a trailer was crossing over the river. The driver mentioned that he felt a sudden jolt while driving on the bridge which made him stop.
Authorities were immediately notified and the route was closed for inspection of the bridge. Apparently, one of the metal beams which give support gave way under the weight of the trailer and partially collapsed. The engineers decided to shut down transit in this area until repair was well underway.
Dozens of trailers and trucks which use this route to go to and from Tilaran, have had to camp along the road for the last two days. As for people traveling by bus, the transportation companies have coordinated the drop off and pick up on each side of the bridge while users must cross on foot.
The bridge will reopen one lane starting tomorrow when the repair works are well advanced. Heavy rains were announced to hit the country tomorrow but should not interfere with the repairs which will be happening underneath the bridge.
