Visit ExpoArte at the former Aduana Building

August 14th, 2008 by Carolyn Ramer

The former customs building located in San Jose’s east side near the Atlantic Railroad Station will be the reunion spot of hundreds of Costa Rican artists with hundreds of art fans.

Ulises Castillo, an active gallery owner, has put together several outdoor exhibits in the areas of San Pedro and Escazu.  This will be the first year the ExpoArte moves indoors and they couldn’t have chosen a better place.

The Aduanas building is a large enclosed structure that used to house the Costa Rican customs offices.  The building was claimed by the government to be used as a cultural and arts center.  Ulises chose the Aduana as the ExpoArte’s location due to its convenient location as well as for its shelter from the rain.  The Aduana center offers parking area as well as several food stands.

The ExpoArte 2008 began yesterday and will continue until Sunday August 17th.  Over 100 Costa Rican artists will be displaying their work consisting mostly of paintings, sculptures and professional photography.

Organizers have committed to put together the event year after year as it allows for the Costa Rican artist to be known as well as for the people to be able to know the artist and interact with them as well.

The event will also entertain its guests with live music from a variety of performers as well as circus type performances and story telling.

ExpoArte will be open from 9am to 9pm until Sunday August 17th and the entrance is free.
